Ecovillage and Ecofarm

Description

The Hortus Cyrenaicus was developed as a holistic approach to enable life at the highest possible level of self-sufficiency. Connectedness with nature comes first, and the stoic paradigm is set aside in favour of the sustainable improvement of the ecological balance, soil fertility and other relevant factors. The results from the experiences of the Hortus Cyrenaicus are available to interest groups and individuals, and are presented and multiplied through trainings, workshops and other methods. Awareness of the role and value of nature needs to be awakened and strengthened so that the earth remains a refuge for humankind in the generations to come. We also see ourselves as a centre of plurality, of cultural and artistic work, and as a place where creativity, innovation and free thinking are seen as the essence of life, as important as daily water and bread. We are about to inaugurate the geodesic dome (up to approx. 30 participants) and the pagoda pavilion (up to approx. 12 participants). These buildings can be rented for events. The grounds of the Hortus Cyrenaicus currently cover around 5 hectares, with an eco and an agrotourism area. We are currently building a first permaculture garden as a demonstration project. We still need helping hands for this. There is also a lot of wood and metal work where we need help, and last but not least we're looking for support with irrigation and the care of the fruit and vegetable plantations. Since February 2024 we've already had over 100 volunteers from more than 30 countries. We look forward to further support.
