Historic water mill

Description

Self-sufficient water mill on a river island dating from the 15th century with an active hydropower plant. After the plant was shut down in 1962, it has been under restoration since 1982 and increasingly made accessible and usable for the public. Since 1999 it has been supported by the association :" Freunde der Waldmühle Rußheim e.V. " and since 2023 additionally by the :" Freundeskreis der Waldmühle ". Both support the preservation and restoration of the listed mill complex as well as promoting the infrastructure for our guests ( excursion destination / museum interests ) Life in a very varied place: Life here is quite diverse. This is reflected in the care and preservation of what has been achieved, as well as in multifaceted manual tasks and further developing and maintaining the outdoor areas. This can be done together or independently. It appeals to the senses to simply experience a piece of this extensive mill world. If you like romance, feel connected to traditional crafts or want to try them out, are perhaps curious about renewable energy, or feel at home in the greenery and the garden — for you this is surely a beautiful and interesting place to encounter new impressions and experiences. We're happy to pass on our knowledge and skills in easygoing everyday life or in a more focused way. Previous experience helps, but is generally not required. If you manage at home – you'll manage here too. We're available 24/7. Energy is generated from hydropower and solar power. Whether for a few days to get a taste, passing through for a short experience, or a longer stay. – without meals 3h/day, with free board and lodging alternatively 5h of help per day, – kitchen / sanitary facilities / places to retreat may be used. You can sleep in a room in the mill or with a camper/motorhome, as well as in your own tent, or in our tipi ( in the little woods with a clearing and a gently murmuring stream),. Beautiful nature in the water-meadow country, good excursion destinations easily reachable by bike and on foot or by public transport. Canoe trips are also possible. 25 km to the Palatinate hills (up to 600 m high). 17 km to the Kraichgau (up to 320 m high). The nearest cities: Karlsruhe, Bruchsal, Heidelberg, Speyer, Germersheim (12-38 km) We are located between Bruchsal and Germersheim. Nearest train station Graben-Neudorf ( pick-up possible), nearest bus stop (300 m) Liedolsheimerstr. 76706 Dettenheim (350 m to the mill), Addition regarding what we ask in return: If staying in our tipi, your own tent, camper… 3h/day. If staying in the building, 4h/day or other options by arrangement. Otherwise feel free to ask. If you leave a telephone number, I'm also happy to call back. !! One request !! Recently, our listing has been viewed quite frequently. According to the portal's statistics, almost 80% of visitors stay on the page for a longer time. Measured against that, only a few visitors get in touch. Our goal is not to maximize numbers. We just can't figure out whether the offer and people's wishes don't match, whether the description is open to misinterpretation, perhaps incomplete, or whether something is still missing at the mill.
