Hobby Sheep Farming in Vineyards / Grape Harvest Starting the First Week of September

Hello, my name is Kathrin; I’m 53 years old and live in Glottertal at the foot of the Black Forest with my small flock of sheep—currently 30 sheep—a few chickens, and 2 cats. My property, located 600 meters outside the village and featuring an open barn, is showing its age, and a lot of stuff has piled up. I’d be thrilled to have motivated and inspiring, energetic people with creativity and ideas who’d like to help me make my special place cozy again with their hands, hearts, and ideas. I’m working on… -…clearing out the space (all the “bad” stuff is already gone; it’s more a matter of figuring out whether all the little bits and pieces of wood, tools, screws, etc., that are still there can be put to good use for something specific or should be thrown away—basically tackling that “mixed bag of leftovers” that’s left over at the end of every cleanup effort. - redesigning the space; it should be transformed from a construction site back into the beautiful place of well-being, celebration, and togetherness that it once was... Specific projects we’re dreaming up are: - Building a simple clay oven (materials and plans available) - Converting an old handcart into a little wagon so one of my sheep can carry the picnic on walks. (Materials available, but I lack the experience to build it) - Improving and sprucing up the chicken coop—it’s allowed to look nice, too :-) - Sealing the faucets (PU pipe and connectors) that I installed last year and just can’t seem to get to stop leaking - Lightly sanding down the beehive and applying a new coat of primer - Installing a solar panel on the barn roof - Spruce up the fire pit again and - Plant shade trees in the sheep pasture - Seasonal work in the vineyard - Set up and take down sheep fences, tend to the sheep, and give them lots of cuddles - Redesign and landscape the garden

What's included

First of all, there are my very cuddly sheep, who love having their backs scratched and let you join their little community in return. During this hot summer, I set up a large tub filled with cold ditch water by the barn—it’s big enough for four people to jump in and cool off. Alternatively, there’s a great outdoor pool in Glottertal, and there are several beautiful swimming lakes nearby (accessible by bike). Places to visit include, for example: Freiburg (14 km away), which offers plenty of culture and nightlife—it’s a very pleasant bike ride there—as well as Switzerland/Basel, Alsace/Strasbourg/Colmar...Vogtsbauernhöfe in Gutach.... I process my own sheep’s wool and can show you how to wash and card it, and how to spin it (with or without wool, on a spinning wheel or with a hand spindle) ;-) Depending on the season and what you’re in the mood for, you can sleep on the couch in my apartment, in the cozy “Bienenhäusle,” or even in your tent or van by the barn. You’re welcome to eat, shower, and do laundry at my place—and if you feel like cooking, I’d love to enjoy a meal “not cooked by me.” I have two bikes you can borrow. A seasonal special is helping with the grape harvest. This year, it’s expected to start in the first week of September. We’re always a fun team—there’s good food, delicious grapes, and lots of wonderful experiences. If you’re really eager to help with the grape harvest and your assistance goes beyond the 8 hours of help we’ve agreed upon, you’ll be officially paid for that time as well.
