Nestled between Hamburg and Berlin, with the Baltic Sea to the north and the Elbe River floodplains to the south, lies the tranquil “LüttenHof.” It is a counseling and retreat center featuring a retreat apartment and two RV sites. Right now, I’m looking for one or two people who’d like to sand down a staircase, reinforce various wooden gates, maybe tear down a brick wall and rebuild it, install windows in a wooden gate, and there are a few small electrical jobs as well. We can discuss the details; there are surely other tasks to be done as well. You could stay in the apartment, park your own RV in the lot, or even camp—in which case you’d be welcome to use the shared bathroom and kitchen. I don’t provide meals because I think it’s nice when everyone is free to do their own thing and a sense of community can develop naturally when it feels right. There are so many different habits that, if everyone takes good care of themselves, that also ensures a good atmosphere for being together. Depending on your type of accommodation, you could pitch in for two or three hours a day, or work full-time for a few days and then relax or go on outings. I might also be looking for someone to live on the farm in January and February—either for a small rent or in exchange for some handyman work—without me being there.
