Hi, I’m Marie and I live in Kehlnbach, a small village in the Hessian countryside. My dog and my three personal horses—two Quarter Horses and a Shetland pony—live right at my home. I’m looking for a reliable person—or, ideally, a couple traveling together—to stay at my home and take care of the animals while I’m away during the winter (ideally over Christmas and New Year’s). Since the horses need to be cared for daily, practical experience with horses is required. You should be able to lead and tie up horses safely, be familiar with feeding, mucking out, and changing blankets, and be able to recognize potential injuries. Two of the horses are only five years old. They are friendly and generally easygoing, but you should still be able to react calmly and confidently if a horse ever becomes nervous. Daily tasks include: • Feeding the horses and mucking out the stalls • Checking the water supply and keeping it ice-free in case of frost • Checking the horses for injuries or unusual behavior • Deciding, based on weather and ground conditions, whether it’s safe for them to graze • Changing horse blankets and liners as needed • Checking the electric fence • Trimming hooves and applying hoof oil • Feeding my dog in the morning and evening and walking him at least once a day • Watering orchids as needed and keeping the house and stable tidy Daily care typically takes about 2–3 hours. We can coordinate days off in advance; if needed, friends of mine can take over the care. All procedures will be explained in detail and documented in writing before you start. A friend of mine who is experienced with horses is always available by phone and can help on-site if you have questions or in an emergency. Friends will also help when changing a round bale of hay—you won’t have to do that alone. Please include specific details in your message about your previous experience with horses, whether you’ll be coming alone or with a partner, and when you’re available.

You'll stay for free in a quiet, rural setting right among the animals, and you'll have access to the kitchen, bathroom, Wi-Fi, and washing machine. The area around Kehlnbach features forests, fields, and beautiful trails for walking and hiking. Gladenbach is just one kilometer away, and Marburg is also easily accessible for a day trip. Outside of your daily animal care duties, you’ll have plenty of free time and can plan your days flexibly. This stay is particularly well-suited for couples, people working from home, or anyone who’d like to spend Christmas and New Year’s in a peaceful rural setting. Before you start, I’ll take plenty of time to get to know you personally and provide a thorough orientation. You’ll receive a written schedule detailing all feeding and care routines, as well as contact information for friends, the veterinarian, and other points of contact. Even while I’m away, you won’t be left on your own if you have any questions.
